The necklace was a present M bought for me in Cameroon.

The first day (and the second!) were absolutely awesome.  My co-workers seem great, the firm seems like a humane place to work, and I already have a work assignment in my preferred practice area!  AND today the big fancy energy department partner, who I'd been told didn't work with associates pretty much ever, came into my office and we had a really long talk about projects I could help him with.  He asked me to send him a paper I wrote on avoided deforestation and carbon credits!

Today is a beautiful Saturday!  Which I will spend reviewing U.C.C. Art. 2, Washington Family & Community Property law, and Indian law.

Yeah, I know, you're all VERY JEALOUS that you don't have Indian law on your exams, aren't you?  Alas, it is not actually so interesting.  SIGH.

But in happier, less bar exam-y news!

-M comes home today, hooray!
-I checked out a bunch of mysteries from the library to read on my breaks, and because I had no class today, I laid in bed reading one of them this morning for half an hour (Cover Her Face by P.D. James), which felt FABULOUS and sort of decadent.

I had to just go for a kind of unfeminine outfit today because my hair looks insane and there's nothing to be done.  I'm going to have to cut it in some way so that my grad photos aren't a source of amusement for my children for generations unto generations, but as yet I'm too busy to try to figure out what to do.

I'm planning to make another Women's Month of Strength post later (I'm in the mood for them; I've had a lot of feminist rage lately, and it's nice to celebrate a bit instead), but here are some short takes:

-Second woman in history wins the Silver Star (and yeah, she was then pulled from her unit because her presence violated the ban on women in combat)
-College softball players carry injured player from opposing team around the bases so that she can be credited for a home run
-And, my current heroine:  An 8-year-old Yemeni girl was forcibly married to a 28-year-old man, who raped her.  She went to court without parental support and divorced him.  "I am happy that I am divorced now.  I will be able to go back to school."

Okay, I've decided I need to relaunch The Outfit Saga.  For those of you who are newish to my journal, I used to post what I was wearing every day.  No pictures, just description.  I find it kind of fun to go back and look at, and sometimes other people post their outfits in the comments, which is also fun!  So here goes:

Today's outfit:
-Black tunic-style wrap dress with flutter cap sleeves
-Dark tan flat grecian sandals
-Dark tan saddlebag purse
-Thin gold bangle bracelet from my mom's awesome '70s jewelry collection

Brown and black are a combo I feel a little bit weird about, but since the dress and the sandals were both sort of grecian, I thought it worked.

These bracelets are from Guyana--my husband bought them for me when he was on a work trip.  They're the most amazing deep purple color; people can't believe they aren't dyed.  Nazareno is an incredibly beautiful wood, but so far hasn't been grown successfully for timber, so it's quite rare. 


GAH.  I sound like some childfree nut.*

Y'all, I have no idea how to cook kale.  But it was so green and attractive!  Help?

ETA:  cooking suggests steaming with wine (red? white? unclear) and then tossing with butter and garlic.  This sounds fairly delicious...

It is just BARELY cool enough for sweaters today, though I suspect that when I actually leave my house (I've been reading the newspaper and working on my note all morning), I will discover that it has actually gotten too hot.  SIGH.  I WANT FALL NOW.
